BORN TO HONOUR the waters

Hugo Vold’s father was a fisherman. His boats were all named Vindy, and every single one brought him safely back to port — through storms that made families pray on the docks of the Skagerrak.

That respect for the sea became a company. In 1966, Vold hired the best designers and sought the finest craftsmen in Scandinavia. He didn’t just build boats. He built a standard — one that turned the Windy name into a marque of quality acknowledged throughout the world

Sixty years on, we still build to his standard. We always will.

1966

Hugo Vold Founds Windy

Hugo Vold founded Windy in Skarpnes on the Norwegian coast, naming the brand after his father’s fishing boats — the “Vindy” — which weathered every storm in the Skagerrak and always returned safely to port.

1970s

Cabin & Day Cruisers Define an Era

Windy’s first generation of cabin and day cruisers — ranging from 22 to 30 feet — established the brand across Scandinavia, earning a reputation for unmatched seaworthiness and quality craftsmanship.

1990s

The Iconic Deep-V Hull

Naval architect Hans Jörgen Johnsen joined the team, developing the formidable planing hull designs that became synonymous with Windy — the Mistral, Ghibli, Bora, and Scirocco — each named after the world’s great winds.

2009

Into Bespoke Boatbuilding

Windy made its first foray into the world of custom superyacht-quality craft, leveraging decades of expertise to create bespoke tenders and chase boats for the most discerning owners.

2010

The SR52 Blackbird

The iconic Windy Dubois SR52 Blackbird took the Cannes Yachting Festival by storm — later rated the world’s best chase boat by Superyacht Magazine in 2015 — and marked Windy’s decisive entry into the specialist custom market.

2020s

A New Chapter with Espen Øino

Partnering with celebrated naval architect Espen Øino, Windy unveiled a new collection of custom luxury superyacht tenders — extending the range from 7 to 24 metres and reaffirming its position at the pinnacle of Scandinavian boatbuilding.
